Back to School with Mano en Mano
This fall regional coordinators of the Migrant Education Program (MEP), traveled across Maine distributing backpacks and school supplies to students.
Every fall, regional coordinators work to prepare backpacks for every student enrolled in the program, that are filled with school supplies including books, pencils, pens, and more.
Migrant Education Program Director, Leslie Monroy says,
βThe MEP program's mission revolves around supporting each student's educational and socio-emotional growth. Making sure that each student has the proper tools and materials to excel at school is just one piece of our work this fall to ensure our students' success.β
In addition to school materials and supplies, students enrolled in the program will receive educational support in the form of: online tutoring, academic goal setting and culturally relevant enrichment activities designed to celebrate each student's unique learning objectives. Regional Coordinators also help advocate for families and work with schools in order to better support the unique needs of migrant students.
This fall regional coordinators are also visiting folks harvesting potatoes, broccoli, and apples in order to share information about the program and connect with families and individuals that may qualify for the program. This month the team went to Aroostock county to meet with workers harvesting broccoli and worked alongside the Access to Essential Services team to organize a mobile Welcome and Resource Fair to welcome folks to Maine and connect them to resources they may need.

Later this fall, the MEP team is anticipating the arrival of workers to Downeast Maine for wreath season, and will continue to organize outreach trips to meet with qualifying students and families.
