Celebrating our 2021 Graduates

Schools Out for the Summer!


As we get ready for some summer sun, we wanted to take some time to celebrate some of our fantastic students from the Migrant Education Program who are graduating from High School this year.  This year (2021) a total of 11 students graduated from High Schools across Maine, and more than half of this years graduates are continuing their education either at a 4 year college or to receive a technical degree.  We are so proud of our students and excited to see what amazing things they will accomplish.

We chatted with a few of our graduates to learn more about their plans for the future and reminisce on some memories together.  Please learn more about some of our graduates below:

Nicole Nicholas

What are your plans for next year?

I will be going to USM for general studies

Reflecting back on your time in high school, what is the accomplishment you are most proud of?

Being part of the national technical honor society

Did you partake in any extra curricular activities in highschool? (sports, clubs, etc)

Volleyball, Peer counselor, Civil Rights movement

What is your favorite memory of the MEP Program?

During Blueberry Raking- the activities

What is the most exciting thing about graduating/your plans for the future?

Get to have diploma and work opportunities

Justin Harnois

What are your plans for next year?

Next year I will be taking a gap year or working.

Reflecting back on your time in high school, what is the accomplishment you are most proud of?

Graduating itself!

Did you partake in any extra curricular activities in highschool? (sports, clubs, etc)

I played basketball

What is your favorite memory of the MEP Program?

Meeting people at the blueberry harvest

What is the most exciting thing about graduating/your plans for the future?

Working on figuring out my next steps!

Tania Paniagua Ortiz

What are your plans for next year?

I will be attending Husson to study Nursing.

Reflecting back on your time in high school, what is the accomplishment you are most proud of?

Being in the top 10 on my class.

Did you partake in any extra curricular activities in highschool? (sports, clubs, etc)

Yes! I was on the Volleyball team, in National honors society, and attended Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institution, and the Edge Gear Up

What is your favorite memory of the MEP Program?

Attending the BHS, and going on College tours

What is the most exciting thing about graduating/your plans for the future?

That I can make my own decisions and maybe do something I like to do that will hopefully will be interesting.

Aaliyah Rose Dana

What are your plans for next year?

I will be going to UMPI and taking nursing

Reflecting back on your time in high school, what is the accomplishment you are most proud of?

Getting my honor cord for graduation and keeping grades up.

Did you partake in any extra curricular activities in highschool? (sports, clubs, etc)

I was the Softball manager and volleyball manger, and I played basketball for one year.

What is your favorite memory of the MEP Program?

Being with workers during raking

What is the most exciting thing about graduating/your plans for the future?

My goal is to be a traveling nurse

Walter Brown

What are your plans for next year?

Next year I am going to college and will receive training in Electrical Engineering

Reflecting back on your time in high school, what is the accomplishment you are most proud of?

Graduating!

Did you partake in any extracurricular activities in highschool? (sports, clubs, etc)

I played basketball and baseball

What is your favorite memory of the MEP Program?

Raking blueberries and meeting members of MEP

What is the most exciting thing about graduating/your plans for the future?

I am excited to get an Engineering degree

Yanet Paniagua

What are your plans for next year?

I will be attending University of Maine Machais for the first semester of college and then I’m planning to transfer to Orono.

Reflecting back on your time in high school, what is the accomplishment you are most proud of?

Making Varsity Volleyball

Did you partake in any extra curricular activities in highschool? (sports, clubs, etc)

I played Volley Ball, and was in National Honor Society, and the Edge Gear Up

What is your favorite memory of the MEP Program?

Going on College Tours

What is the most exciting thing about graduating/your plans for the future?

Learning to do things on my own and being independent.
