La Posada 2024
This December Mano en Mano celebrated the holiday season alongside community members at our annual celebration, La Posada
A posada is a cultural tradition taking place in December with religious undertones, and relates to the New Testament story of Mary and Joseph's walk through Bethlehem in search of a vacant room. In context, a posada means "hospitality," or a space to stay. The tradition is to invite family, friends, and neighbors in for a posada where you share a meal and a hot drink. This represents the same walk Mary and Joseph took when looking for hospitality from an inn.
The practice of the posada persists because it is a symbol of unity, signifies the meaning of friendship, and at the end of the year is a way to share our love for our community and partners.
Every December, Mano en Mano staff, community members and volunteers come together to create a space to celebrate, share food, listen and dance to music, and pass on cultural traditions to the next generation.
This past year was the 18th annual celebration of La Posada, and the celebration included: songs, arts-and-crafts, dancing, games, raffles, and delicious food!
